| The Waterville “Stitch Sisters” just started a new project and would like to invite any of the other groups to participate.
Our group is participating in the 3 Square Appeal sponsored by LILY (Love in the Langurage of Yarn). You can check them out at: https://www.facebook.com/LilyLoveInTheLanguageOfYarn to bring warmth and relief to the Children of the Syrian Refugees in Turkey. So far there are three main refugee camps with (as of February 13) over 760,000 refugees and almost half that number are children. The Knit a Square, Help Warm a Child goal of 3 Square Appeal is to gather and sew the squares into blankets for the children to have a warm bed. Interested in participating? Here is the scoop: (Great opportunity to use up the stash and odds and ends) Any spare wool you have can be knitted or crocheted into an 8 inch square. To help with the gauge- size 6 needles with worsted weight yarn, cast on 32 stitches. If you knit or crochet loosely or tightly, you may need to play with this a little to get an 8 Inch Square. Have fun with the squares and make them any stitch pattern you wish, they just need to be 8 Inches Square so when they get sewn to other donated squares, they match up. Very Important: If you are knitting, please do the first two rows and the last two rows in the knit stitch so it forms a garter stitch edge. Also, Knitting or Crocheting, leave a 36 inch length of yarn attached to your work after the cast off. This will be used to join the squares together. If you use more than one color, weave in the ends but still leave the last cast-off 36 inch tail. Bring them to our next gathering on March 27th at the library for “Stitch Sisters”. Or, you may mail your squares to Sarah Meek, 115 Ponderosa Road, East Wenatchee, WA 98802 and I she take them in on the 27th. Sandy B. has volunteered to send them to Dianne Jones, Founder of LILY as a donation from Stitch Sisters. |
